It's been said that Australians and Americans have much in common. One of those things is a love of fast cars. From the land of parallel evolution comes the evolution of the Ford Falcon into the GT-HO Phase III. Compact, but with a 5.8 litre V-8 monster under the hood, this screamer was FAST-the fastest 4-door production car of its day. It took all three places in the 1971 Bathurst 500. TRAX has produced a faithful 1:24 rendition of the muscular Aussie Falcon in Vermillion Fire and True Blue. The fit and finish is right up there with the best FM or DM images. There are two beautifully applied gold stripes (with logo and "351-GT") on each side. It has a full suspension and a nicely done set of miniature alloy wheels. Undercarriage detailing is up to the standards of what we've come to expect. The engine is fully wired and detailed, with a "shaker" style air cleaner, and there's a spare tire in the trunk-no surprise to our friends down-under, who are used to this kind of quality from TRAX, a die cast fixture in Australia for 30+ years. TRAX raised the bar, however, with its Super Scale series of precision die casts. The Falcon GT-HO must have been a popular stoplight Grand Prix contender on Friday night in downtown Sidney. It's 1:24 scale counterpart belongs in any American muscle-car aficionado's collection. The price, which is on a par with American images, is $194.90 Australian (w/shipping), or $128.89 converted to American currency. (06/30/1999) (06/30/1999) |
