In the long history of professional drag racing, the machines that break specific top speed and low elapsed time marks achieve a special status. "Swamp Rat XII" is
one of those very special machines as it broke the 240 mile-per-hour barrier defeating "T.V." Tommy Ivo in the Spring of 1968 in an elimination round at Alton, Illinois. It's winning ways continued with Top Fuel Eliminator victories at Englishtown, N.J. and the prestigious U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park in September of
1968. Constructed by Don Garlits, Connie Swingle, and Bob Taffe early in 1968, this "beauty" was christened the "Wynnscharger" with sponsorship from Wynn's Friction
Proofing. Originally painted bright red, this machine was repainted midnight black with red trim during mid-1968.
Late in the year, "Swamp Rat XII" scored a decisive victory in the Professional Dragster Association Series staged in California ending the year as one of the most successful top
fuel dragsters ever built.
Modeled in 1/24th scale, this fully-assembled replica of the "Swamp Rat XII" captures every detail of a legendary top fuel dragster. Powered by a 426 cubic-inch Dodge powerplant, this sleek machine sports an axle-mounted front wing, fully wired "blown" Dodge engine, and gleaming black and red bodywork. It rides on five-spoke Halibrand wheels and semi-pneumatic Goodyear drag slicks. All of the tamp-printed markings were authenticated from the actual machine displayed at the Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, Florida. Information provided by manufacturer.
