Morris Garages (MG) modified standard Morris Cowley's under the management of Cecil Kimber in 1922. The chassis's were lowered and fitted with more sporty bodies. An icon is born. By 1939 with WWII looming, MG announced its TB Midget. It was given the engine from the Morris 10, a 1250cc, ohv, 4 cylinder known as the XPAG. With the outbreak of war, production ceased and MG took responsibility for servicing guns, producing aircraft parts and they overhauled tanks. In 1945 they turned their thoughts once again, to automobiles. By 1948, the TC was little more than a few modifications away from the TB model it replaced, but the public clamored for a new face and a fresh sports car. The four-year run ending 1949, produced slightly in excess of 10,000 TC's. Not bad considering it was to be a "stop-gap" vehicle. The FM issued this little jewel 11/93. Brighter in appearance than the British Racing Green limited edition, manufactured 4 years later, the red sparkles on this size vehicle. Virtually no door gaps, elegantly delicate wire wheels, and details in chrome to dazzle the eye. Although there is no engine wiring, the plumbing is there as is infinitely small engine decals, authentic to the real thing. The door hinges out of necessity, are a slight bit large and the dash gauges are decals on wood, but they all blend in to the delight that is this little British charmer from Abingdon, England. Paired with the green version, it becomes a compelling sight for lovers of the British sports car. The issue price is $90. DISCONTINUED 12/31/1999. (10/15/1998) (05/22/1999) |
