Although priced at "entry-level", this 1:18th scale diecast will still amaze the collector that appreciates the fine detailing and finish afforded the UT line. Priced at only $30.00 retail, it offers an excellent black finish with perfectly painted flat black surfaces which detail the trim around the front, rear, and side windows. Chrome is superior to anything offered by UT competitors in the same price range. Doors are hung perfectly with seams equal to the best mint car models. Headlights and taillights are typical "first Class" pieces as are the poseable AMG styled wheels.
Inside, detailing is good but interior surfaces and trunk could be finished more realistically. Under the hood is the AMG straight 6 powerplant, detailed more than acceptably like the 1:1 version, especially considering its price class. The model lacks some of the quality put into higher priced UT or AutoArt models however. The underside is plastic, only minimally detailed and lacks a working suspension.
This model is going to be well suited for the Mercedes Benz owner who has the real thing, or a collector that will place it in a display case and admire it as a static decorative model. (08/31/1999)
