It's not every day someone takes delivery of new car three YEARS after the purchase! German artist Rudolph Bauer bought the chassis is 1937, the last year of Duesenberg's existence, planning to have the coachwork done in Germany by Erdmann & Rossi. The darkening pre-war climate there caused Bauer to leave for America, where he finally took delivery of the chassis. He had the coachwork done by Rollson of New York, primarily a Packard coachbuilder. This 1:24 scale die cast model from FM is MASSIVE. A full 10 ¼ inches in length, it will dwarf all but the biggest models in your collection. Though it lacks a full suspension, a raft of nifty features more than offset this omission. The doors are hinged, not dog-legged. The gauges are 3-D and exquisitely rendered, as is the rest of the fully carpeted and appointed interior. The wire wheels, hood ornament, and side-grilles are all photo-etched. Under the hood, the engine has plenty of fine detailing, including wiring. The undercarriage has all the detailing you can shake a lug wrench at. A trunk that opens and a real fabric top, with removable chauffeur's section, complete the value-added features. Don't let the $135 price tag deny you the satisfaction of owning this beautiful model. It's a tribute to the very last of a proud, unexcelled breed of luxury car. (01/12/1999) (01/07/1999) |
