For over a year prior to the release of this replica, the Metropolitan Owners Club had devoted pages in their newsletters to the advent of this car,especially to the issues of authenticty. They even accused the president of their Club of providing non-authentic prototypes to FM for its designers to replicate. Such goings-on.
And when finally issued by The Franklin Mint, this replica was missing the "M" grille ornament and the white paint on the hood just above the grille. The screams of the Metro collectors were heard and FM quickly made the required changes. Buyers of the original version were offered new ones in replacement but some of us kept ours and they occasionally show up on the Auction. You can clearly see the missing elements in Mike Martin's excellent scan below. The issue price was $75. (08/29/1998)
