Okay, so it wasn't pretty, leaked oil like an Oklahoma gusher, and wasn't about to become the source of colorful new phrases for performance.  But, if you wanted a car that dared to be different, the air-cooled, rear-engine 1960 Corvair was just the thing.  The brainchild of Ed Cole, "the car that Ralph Nader killed," actually became a respectable performer once its growing pains were over.

FM, having a reputation for reproducing off-beat car models, did a fine job in presenting this unique car.  It's a mystery to me why the quality varies so much at the same price point, but FM ought to keep using this group of craftsmen.  The interior is well done, with lots of fine dash detail, plush-looking carpeting, and two-tone seats.  The front seatbacks even tilt.  Lift up the rear deck.  Voila!  There are plenty of engine details-even wires.  They haven't stinted under the hood either, up to including a spare tire.  Exterior finish is fine and things seem to fit together well.  Not a bad overall effort for a $90 model.  (How about a '65 Corvair, FM?)

I've always admired any person or company that dares to be different.  Corvair took a shot and deserves recognition for it.  Perhaps there's a bit of space in your collection for FM's tip-of-the-hat to Corvair's kind of uniqueness. The issue price is $90.
