Hath hell frozen over at high noon or are the Mints truly beginning to listen to us "crazies" who buy this stuff!!!!! First, DM produces the spectacular 57 Golden Hawk (it's also a spectacular seller, as well, thanks to all of you), and now FM shows up with a 1/24 car LONG OVERDUE... the lovely '61 Continental Convertible Sedan. Done in black (not my favorite hue - I much prefer the white, but with only 500 issued, most of us will have to be happy with this version,) the model is exquisite in its proportions and its presence... displayed either top up or down. everything works with ease... all 4 doors, hood and reverse opening trunk lid (no, the top doesn't retract.... but you do get a white raised top which mounts perfectly on the body.)

The interior is beautifully replicated in black and white and is replete in every detail, including a fold down center armrest for front seat passengers... guys in the rear have to tough it out without one!! Trim is a slight disappointment here. FM has chosen to delete the delicate trims which surrounded the wheel openings as well as those which echo the bumper ends. While the fender well moldings may have been too delicate to replicate without clunkyness, the bumper trims could have been easily added. Unfortunately, neither are there and, on a black car, are especially notable in their omission.

All in all, this is an exquisitely executed model of a truly remarkable car design.... and, as I stated earlier, long overdue for replication. The issue price is $120. [Reviewed 7/96]
