Franklin Mint 1:24 1951 Citroen 2 CV

This is a car that brings back fond memories, having toured Europe in one the summer of 1968. This is a real sleeper. The 2CV is the French interpretation of the VW Bug... it is a design that is older than the Beetle, uglier than the Beetle, and flimsier than the Beetle, but it's as dear to the hearts of the French as the "Marseilles". Produced for almost 30 years, this replica from FM models the earlier version of the car, which ceased production in the late 70s-early 80s. Everything operates (4 doors, hood ....revealing an outrageously accurate rendition of the 2 cylinder 25 hp engine and front wheel drive ), and the cloth roll-up top which extends from the windshield header to the rear bumper.

I don't have any paperwork with my sample so I don't know if I've found everything! Unlike the rest of FMs recent releases, the suspension DOES NOT WORK, but, if memory serves me correctly, neither did that of the original! What we have here is an excellent rendition of a very much loved, albeit secular, vehicle with somewhat vague recognition factor for Americans, but with a huge following in Europe, where it was a transportation mainstay.Priced at $75, you get a silver-gray-green ugly duckling, chock full of accurate detail inside and out that makes for a very different addition to our collections. This one is not going to be actively marketed in the USA, so you have to ask for it, but, if you like funky, esoteric, and bizarre all rolled up into one, this is the car for you!!!!!

Additional comments from Rich Sufficool: Those of you fortunate enough to own this little gem may have wondered why your diecast does not look like the version pictured on the COA, or even the one pictured in Jay Engel's review. There were many changes made during production by Citroen and I assume by model vendors that resulted in a few possible variants. There are two grill types, a seven vaned photoetched grill and a 17 vaned molded plastic version. Mud flaps for the front wheels may be rubber, hard plastic or absent entirely. There is different seat material and/or paint texture. The door interior may be covered with adhesive backed flocked paper or be flock painted. Different textured material for the roof as well as different engine finishes (at least three) complete the list of possibilities. You'll want to collect the entire set.... if anyone knows just how many different combinations of variations actually exist.
