Here is one of those cars that's really timeless.... along with the '49 Buicks and Oldsmobiles... the "C" Body Triumvirate represents GM's first new vehicles of the Post WW2 era with hardtop styling that would influence design trends for the next 25 years! This Cadillac shows a great deal of effort on the part of FM designers to create a most accurate replica. It's right up to the new standard FM is striving to attain. Not only is the model accurate (the 2-tone blue color scheme is perfect!!) but unusually well detailed even by FM standards!!! The engine is the usual work of art, ditto the interior. Body proportions are excellent with chrome accents depicted to perfection; the grille, especially, is dead on (I only wish FM would tweak the '49 Buick to this standard...especially the GRILLE...because this new Cad blows the Buicks into the weeds). Build quality is very good... although the hood on my example refuses to stay open on its own. The antenna was snapped off, but can be replaced by a piece of piano wire... the original was plastic, so that's probably why). [Editor's Note: In fact, the antenna was not broken off - the car comes with a recessed antenna, so all you see is the base. The original hand-built photo prototype DID have an antenna, but it was decided to eliminate this very early in the production run. If you get one with an antenna, it is a true rarity.] All in all, this is a wonderful addition to any collection, and like the '61 Lincoln, is a car that should've been done long ago!!! Highly recommended. The issue price is $120. [Reviewed 8/96] (06/25/1998) |
