Franklin Mint 1:24 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina

Franklin Mint 1:24 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina diecast car

Along with Chevrolet, 1955 was the year that Pontiacs blossomed!!! A new V8, all new design, flashy paint schemes, and uxury heretofore reserved for higher echelon GM product. The FM replica has all of that and more....

The car is the top-of-the-line Star Chief, finished in 2-tone Cream over Medium Green with matching interior, and is complete right down to the last wire in the engine compartment. FM even went so far as to replicate the extremely rare (and pricey!!!... real sets in mint condition go for a cool $1000.!) wire wheel covers. That's the good news.... the bad news is that the tires reproduced are 60s narrow band white walls and are obviously incorrect for this car. The visual effect is that of a "low rider" in "squat" position... surely NOT what FM designers intended!!! Hopefully this detail will be worked out before production proceeds much further as it does detract greatly from the otherwise handsome appearance of this interesting and important car. [Editor's note: This has been corrected!]

Careful paintwork, using a fine brush and lexan-compatible paint (available at any hobby store handling R/C models) will yield the proper white wall width. I tried this and it works. We're finally seeing a great (and they're GREAT, too) number of NON-CHEVIES.... well done replicas of truly interesting cars. I hope you'll support these new issues by purchasing the ones you like... thus paving the way for more!!!! This Pontiac is a fine piece, well built, and accurately executed and deserves a place on your shelf! Highly recommended. The issue price is $120.
