Franklin's 1960 Chevrolet Impala is a transitional piece. Not as 'toy-like' as earlier models, it still lacks some of the niceties of later mint releases. To its credit, the sparse engine compartment (remember the good old pre-smog device days?) comes with some 'wiring' and good hose detail. The interior has been faithfully reproduced with nice attention to details such as the steering wheel. Chrome and exterior trim are faithfully reproduced and the even the hub caps look good. Be careful of the twin rear mounted antennas though, as they are very thin. On the down side, the door gaps are quite noticeable as are gaps around the trunk. Speaking of the trunk, where's the spare??? I know models don't get flats, but hey, leaving out the spare seems, well, CHEAP! The Roman Red paint is not flawless, containing dust. Overall though, the model is a nice looking piece that brings back memories of cruisin' Woodward, top down, radio up, and tank filled with 23c a gallon gas. Rate this one 3 and ? stars with a 4 possible if you find one with good paint and door/trunk fit (out of 5). The issue price is $120. (09/19/1999) (09/19/1999) |
