Take the new 61E V-twin motor, make the rocker covers look like the knuckles of a clenched fist, and you have the formula for a Harley classic - the 1936 EL. The 40 BHP, 60.33 cubic inch engine became the basis for one of most popular engines Harley ever produced, affectionately dubbed the "knucklehead" by those who owned it and felt its power propelling their 'cycles. I hesitated getting into collecting FM's motorcycles, not because I didn't like them, but because I wanted to avoid collecting yet another kind of die cast. FM's 1:10 scale rendition of the landmark '36 EL is a good example of why. It's stunning in its detail and has one working feature after another. Here's the list: the hand brake lever, foot brake, clutch pedal, shift lever, kick-starter pedal, front suspension, movable "chain" and two kickstands. It's painted in rich, emerald green, with silver and gold accents and a glossy black frame. The speedometer and gauge detail on the twin tanks is also outstanding, as is the chromed exhaust with its vertical fin. Tires with authentic treads are up to par. Winged logos with red accents and Harley-Davidson lettering add the finishing touch to a fine image indeed. You'd spend a small fortune to own an original of this landmark Harley. But you can have a smaller version with all the details of the original 'cycle from FM without spending a fortune. The issue price is $135. (12/19/2000) (12/19/2000) |
