Here is a car that moved Franklin Mint into uncharted territory that your Editor hopes proves to be fertile ground. This is the 1951 LeSabre Showcar, part #B11 WW 93. We hope this is the first of a whole series of 1/24 concept, dream and show cars from GM, Ford and Chrysler. It seems that some members have complaints about finish and door fit, while others are satisfied. My opinion is that the car merits a look and our support if at all possible. Editor's Note: This model was withdrawn from sale for a period of time not long after it was issued because of these QC problems. The re-issued replica has much improved accuracy as well as fit and finish. For those who have asked, the silver cylinders inside the door sills are fire extinguishers, and the device at the rear of the trunk is the battery wiring. One of the details that many collectors have overlooked on this model is the rotating mechanism centered at the front of the hood. One way, it's a grille; the other, a pair of headlights. The issue price is $120. Member Ken Ryan advises - Damon Enterprises sells a fantastic very professionally done video tape of all the Motoramas for $29.95 + P&H. Their address is P.O. Box 1255, Wheatridge, CO 80033. This video covers virtually every show car made by GM from the 1938 Buick Y job on and pays special attention to the Le Sabre as originally done in 1951 and the revision of that car made for the 1953 Motorama modelled by FM.
