With all due respect to my fellow reviewer, Tony Perrone, I felt the 1997 Torch Red C5 Corvette deserved its own review. After all, this was the 'Vette that rewrote the book on "America's Sports Car." Redesigned from the ground up, the C5 has 1500 less parts (!) than its C4 predecessor. Some purists may carp at the level of civility that was incorporated into this car by those wily Chevy engineers but who says a 180+ mph car can't be safe too? To my way of thinking, the only reason past 'Vette owners liked those quirks was because they were forced to put up with 'em! As Tony so ably pointed out, the level of detailing on the 1:24 scale die cast model of the 1997 Corvette by FM is beginning to make them a genuine bargain at $90. While not as visually stunning as its black counterpart, the Torch Red color isn't too "orangey" and is nicely polished. The instrument panel, console and door details are nicely contoured, giving a 3-D look. This model is more like it! (NOTE: Be sure not to miss the tinted top stored separately in the styrofoam box.). The only sour note here is that the black color is no longer offered! Until you can afford to own the real McCoy, this model's a great substitute to fire up your fantasy road-trips. Va-rooom!!
