I've often said that DM is the Pickup King because of the many fine images they've produced. But that doesn't mean FM can't do one up right. This 1:24 version of a fully-rigged 1996 Ford F-150 pickup looks great. Note the absence of a Madison Avenue moniker. This truck needs no other designation than F-150. Loaded or not, it's a man's working truck.

FM spared nothing on this Field and Stream commissioned image. Options include a front brush guard with winch and fog lights; a bed-mounted roll bar with a four searchlight array; a full-width toolbox with opening lids; molded side steps, a tailgate cargo net, and a heavy-duty step-bumper. There's even a Class III trailer hitch! Under the hood is a five-liter V-8 complete with all wiring and hoses. Inside the cab there's three-bucket seating, carpeting, and a nicely detailed dash with 3-D gauges. The undercarriage detailing is awesome, clearly displaying the 4-wheel drive hardware, extended-range gas tank, under-bed spare, and off-road modifications. Oversize, deep-tread Goodyear Wrangler MT tires on handsome, slotted chrome wheels and hubs add the finishing touch. FM even threw in a 1:24 scale insulated hunting cap, dog and duck decoys! Oh, and did I mention the rear fender art? (I suppose a shotgun on an in-cab gun rack is too much to wish for.)

This truck was often displayed with, and made a perfect complement to, the now unavailable Airstream trailer. Though this handsome model is officially retired, there's plenty of stock at the Mint and in the Gallery Stores. How can you call yourself a fancier of pickup die casts if this beauty isn't on your shelf? The issue price was $120. (06/27/1999)
