Franklin Mint 1:24 1992 Petty Pontiac Grand Prix - Farewell Tour diecast car

GENERAL: 1/24 replica of the blue/orange #43 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix Winston Cup race car. Price is $120. Diecast body and undercarriage with opening hood and trunk. Detail parts of interior, engine, suspension and chassis are made of a combination of metal, plastic, rubber, and wire materials. Functional front and rear suspension. Front wheels are steerable and indexed, and are geared to steering wheel. REPLICATION AND DETAIL: Accurate replication of real race car with much detail. Interior has roll cage, detailed instrument panel and steering wheel, seat with belts, chassis adjustment provisions and cabin cooling and safety features. Engine has detailed accessories and simulated spark plug wires, but does not have cooling system hoses and oil system lines. Functional suspension has metal coil springs, but does not have detailed brakes and differential oil cooler. Trunk has detailed fuel system, fuel tank and related hoses. External body has correct air inlet grilles, spoilers, air dams, window safety straps and proper markings and sponsor decals. Right side door does not have window pane, which is not correct for the superspeedway version of the car.

QUALITY AND FINISH: External paint finish and quality of decals is excellent. Quality of assembly and details are very good to excellent. Not all parts and details are modeled in true external finish. Replication and finish of wheels and tires is good and fit of wheels is tight.

SUMMARY: Accurate and detailed model with excellent fit and finish of details. Functional suspension and steering are a very fine modeling feature. The overall fit and finish is somewhat better than, but the replication of race car details is slightly less than, the Action/RCCA Elite series of race cars. The issue price is $120. (7/97)
