OK, OK...FM has finally discovered the charm and appeal of the "off Broadway" automobile...and has come through this discovery with flying colors!!! The '51 HUDSON HORNET is here...and it was well worth the wait. We were treated to the excellent HH in 1/43 scale and, while the smaller model had some errors, the basic replication was right on!!! Now, with this new 1/24 FM offering, it's evident FM is trying to turn things around. The model is filled with the little niceties that make a precision car something special (check out the headliner and the interior, the engine compartment , the fit and finish); this model captures all of the bulk ugliness of the original...even down to the gapless doors (and they're pretty tight, too!!), the chrome quality and fit as well as the attention to accuracy. Paint quality is very good...it's metallic dark green, (metallics are difficult to do correctly, but this one's great!), the interior coloration is quite accurate...which is to say real Hudson comfy with a twist of the bordello look. This is a fine effort by FM of a truly universally wanted car. If you're into real Automotive Americana, then this is a must have. If you're a Hudson fan, then you gotta get this...it's the best Hudson replica I've seen to date. Not quite the 5 Star model we keep on hoping for from FM, it does earn a strong 4 Star rating!!! The issue price is $120. (10/25/97) (10/25/1997) |
