I know-I've often stated that DM is the Pickup King but somebody at FM must be listening. I've also stated that I'm no fan of pickups after the '30s. So-a guy CAN change his mind can't he? While the 1955 Chevy Cameo is still an ugly duckling next to the '37 Chevy pickup, what clinched it for me were the features and extras FM put into the Flying "A" version. First, the red roof/red hood/white bed color scheme works better than the original two tone colors or the Christmas version all in red. Then, there's the real wood strips on the bed floor. A full suspension doesn't hurt either; nor does the fully wired engine. And check out the drop-down compartment door and removable spare tire. Fit and finish are excellent and the roof lights, roof horns, and truck mirrors really add authenticity. Bonus items are: two gas cans, water can, toolbox, bumper jack, star wrench, and two cases of oil that go in the bed. This baby, all decked out in full Flying "A" livery, looks more than ready to rescue some unfortunate 1:24 motorist on the 1:24 Interstate. Add a clipboard, visor cap, and Flying "A" map and you're ready to open your own service station! I'm a fan of dioramas, so this image is a natural. I worked at a service station on Florida's I-4 and made a number of service calls in a sixties version of a truck like this. Just handling this 1:24 die cast brings back many memories. Gee, seems to me THAT's one darn good reason to collect these things! The price is $120 + S&H. (09/25/1999) (09/25/1999) |
