Franklin Mint 1:24 1970 Ford Mustang Mach I Coupe, Cobra Jet 428- LE Of 10,000 (Discontinued) diecast car

It's 1970-the last gasp of the muscle car craze of the sixties. As if in protest, there was the Hemicuda, the Chevelle SS 454, and the Mustang Mach I. This was no pony car; it was a full grown, raging, kick-out-the-side-of-the-barn stallion. Shoehorn a 428 CID, 360 horsepower, axle-buster into a sleek body and you had the formula for raw power.

FM's bargain priced 1:24 scale replica of this striking car comes with the works: shaker air cleaner, rear window louvers, air dam and spoiler, full suspension, carpeted interior, tilting front seat backs, and a fully detailed engine and undercarriage. This is one muscle car model not to be missed. Though I'm not a fan of orange painted cars, this particular shade, Grabber Orange, with flat black accents, isn't bad. It gives the car a thoroughly sporty look. As we've come to expect, the paint's flawlessly applied. My only gripe is the use of decals to delineate the side-marker lights, and the lack of seatbelts (they weren't optional in 1970).

With surprisingly little tinkering with the option list, you could own a truly impressive road warrior in 1970 with the purchase of a Mustang Mach I. If you had one of the originals, or if you merely wished you did, the Franklin Mint offers a bit of 1:24 scale wish fulfillment. The issue price is $105. THIS MODEL IS DISCONTINUED AS OF 01/2000.
