Franklin Mint 1:24 1955 Ford Fairlane Sunliner- Limited Edition Of 5,000 (Discontinued) diecast car

Take FM's very nice '55 Crown Victoria, take off the top, modify the interior a little, refinish the body in a new 2-tone color combination, add a convertible boot and....you have FM's '55 Ford Sunliner, finished in Waterfall Blue over AquaTone Blue, set off by whitewall tires, full chrome wheel discs mounted on Waterfall Blue wheels, and a continental kit gracing the rear. The effect is twofold...on one hand, the model is truly beautiful...the wonder of effective use of unusual color, coupled with neat assembly. Nice build...tight doors, trunk, hood. less than usual door gaps...nice! The car sits right, downright jaunty; it looks like the '55 SUNLINER of our boyhood recollection. Everything seems just right...but, at the same time, it's, well, just "blah".

The biggest disappointments here are the lack of update of a old technology diecast by the .addition of working suspension...a raised convertible top choice... some tweaks of the CV in the conversion process...it just would've been nice...not to mention the DIFFERENCE it would make in the model!!

This is a nice, very desirable Ford Convertible that could've been a real bulls-eye...with a little tweaking! Instead, we're presented with a model whose claim to fame is that it's 2 tone paint job isn't SOMETHING and White. What a shame, this model could've been so much more. 2 ½ stars out of 5. The issue price is $120. (3/4/98)
