Here is an automobile of hoary legend extraordinaire; the very stuff dreams are made of.....possibly Packard's very finest hour; the "Car of the Stars" and all of the above now brought to us in the precision scale 1/24 from the design duo of the Franklin Mint. From a technical standpoint, it is completely "state of the modelling art"....with working suspension and rotating driveshaft, and the new ADJUSTABLE SIDE WINDOWS!!!! This model is simply magnificent! Every line, every nuance, even tha color, it's all unmistakably Packard....in a scale sized perfectly for our shelves. It gives me Goose bumps just to look at its stunning presence and detail. Build quality is the best ever from Franklin...no door gaps, even, smooth paintwork, excellent fit and finish abounds everywhere your eye falls on this gleaming masterpiece, The photo-etched grille, the adjustable side windows(!!!!), the jewel-like operational luggage rack ('40 was the last year for this most traditional Packard accessory), the incredible Cormorant (Pelican), in sterling silver, majestically mounted atop the traditional slope-shouldered grille, a Packard trademark whose appearance bespoke the unparalleled quality and tradition. It's all here in FM's Darrin...in a package that is so appealing, so compelling that its very presence in a model collection immediately overshadows almost everything except maybe for the most exotic Bugatti or Maybach. This Packard is one of my all time favorites....our next door neighbor in Westwood Village, California, had an Ivory '41 Darrin Victoria all through WW2 and into the 50s....I remember it vaguely, but my father took pictures of it for posterity, I guess. I am thrilled to finally have this beautiful car in my collection. Regardless of what your "theme" is for your collection, you MUST have this beautiful Packard or your collection is NOT complete!!! This is truly a 5 ***** effort from Franklin Mint The price is $135.00 + S&H. (08/08/1998) |
