The Datsun 240Z was the conqueror of yet another automotive beachfront in the world marketplace; the sportscar! The car, itself, is a dichotomy of sophistication and innocence, debuting into an automotive world that was just beginning to relate to the experience and technologies gained through racing and rallying of small 2 seat cars such as the MG, Jaguar, Lotus, and the like.
FM has scratched on a new area with an excellent effort here. The 240Z is a very small vehicle...and in 1/24 scale, it's almost diminutive. FM, however, has managed to capture this little bomb almost perfectly. Lines and proportions are excellent; paintwork is outstanding, and build quality is also excellent with none of the spotty build problems that have plagued FM issues of the not-so-distant past. Doors, hood and hatch all open and close tightly and are almost gap-free. Engine detail is stellar, complete with plumbing and the obligatory under hood decals and stickers. Even the "Nissan OK" sticker appears in its usual place on the right rear quarter window, proclaiming "all's well"!
As we've come to expect, the Z is fitted with fully operational suspension as well as the correct wheels, tires, and full "sport" wheel covers. The all black vinyl (read that plastic in the 1:1 scale car) interior is depicted in its all-time lack of glory. This is as it should be since the original car had a rather cheap-looking, but functional interior. Indeed, the very essence of this first Z is really there...even down to the original sick orange paint. The whole package will make you smile as the many memories these cars are capable of conjuring come forward from the deep folds of a distant memory and appear on your diecast shelf or within the glass-encased treasure hutch in your office.
In short, this is a wonderful little car, beautifully done, and well worth the $95 being asked for it.
