One of the prettiest Pontiacs ever produced was the stunning 1955 Star Chief..especially in Carlsbad Black over Avalon Yellow! This is another "makeover" of an existing tool (something both Mints often do for obvious economic reasons), but with a new black and white interior pattern
specific to the Convertible as well as some very minor details such as proper-width whitewalls which, when added up, make a real difference in the finished product. The full wheel discs (mounted on authentic Avalon Yellow rims) differ from the optional wire-style caps of the Catalina and offer a good contrast to the total design of the car.
The visual of the entire car is STUNNING! This Convertible is drop-dead gorgeous. It is arrogant, it is handsome, it is dramatic. There is, however, a downside. My example suffers from the usual loose doors (yes, yes, I took it apart...it's fixed!!!) and, sadly, very sadly, door gaps galore...especially at the leading edge (I couldn't fix that). The upside is all of the latest stuff.....suspension, operable seatbacks, and clean, tight assembly (doors excluded...and hopefully, just on my example).
SUGGESTION: Order this through your Gallery Store so they can check it out for you BEFORE you take it home! This baby is Americana...if you're a 50's collector, you gotta have this. If you really, truly enjoy 50's GM styling, you gotta have this one. And if you love the convertible feel in the Springtime...this Pontiac is for you. At 3 Stars (for design, not execution) this is a "feel good" car if I ever saw one! (3/18/98) This car was issued in two forms, one with wide white sidewall tires another with narrow.
