Franklin Mint 1:24 1935 Auburn 851 Speedster- Black (Revised and Reissued 10/98) diecast car

This is a long awaited, much asked for, subtly revamped reissue of one of FM's BEST EVER replicas. First issued in the early 90s (white with red trim) was a real success story. This was a model of a most important 30's Classic...one of the late Gordon Buhrig's greatest designs. Inexplicably, early in 1992, the lithe white SPEEDSTER was "pulled" from the FM lineup.

Welll.....it's baaaack...!!! And it's returned as a real sassy partner to the original model. Nicely built, beautifully finished, the new wheels are now photo-etched and finished (ACCURATELY, I might add!) in light green, complete with correct AUBURN 8 logos on the hubcaps. The black paint on my example is near flawless and the contrast of the green trim on the body and wheels is just plain rakish; just handsome. The interior has been redone to include a more realistic "texture" as has the raised convertible top (also green; I would've preferred black).

What we have here is a most welcome reissue of a car that never should have been dropped in the first place; returning better than ever...tighter, more eyeball appeal, and jauntier than ever. Moreover, it's lost the "toylike" echoes of the original issue ...it has a mature, seasoned "Capture The Era" look about it and it's a great look. Don't miss this..check it out..it may just follow you home!!! 4 stars for the color combination alone!!! Available at FM Galleries initially, and eventually through their phone and mail department. The issue price is $120. (10/14/1998)
