Chevrolet's growth by 1954 was highlighted by the construction of new facilities. New plants in Flint, Michigan and additions to those in Cleveland, Indianapolis and Muncie, Indiana were completed. As a result of that priority focus, the 1954 model year was only slightly changed from 1953. The previous year's wrap-around windshield, a first, was a big hit. But now they introduced additional driving pleasures such as power brakes, seats and windows. Also for 1954, all Chevrolet engines were converted to utilize aluminum pistons. This was a good year for Chevrolet's product line. It was a good year to replicate for diecast models too. The Surf Green & India Ivory coupe is a widely accepted favorite. This convertible however, is RED! "Too many red models", you say? You will learn to get over it for this one. In a word, it is 'striking'. The deep red is paired up with a crisp white convertible boot, seat tops, rear fender accent and wide whitewall tires. The engine is plumbed and wired, the battery ground is braided and accurate decals show off the air cleaner and windshield-washer canister. The suspension consists of operational shocks and springs and is a delight to the eye. The seat backs fold forward, they are soft and give to the touch. The wipers are photo-etched, properly delicate and along with the "Bel Air" insignias on both sides and "Power Glide" script on the trunk lid, add true scale realism to this gorgeous replica. This 'Lady in Red' is ready for the dance. The issue price is $120. (08/03/1999) (08/15/1999) |
