Franklin Mint 1:10 1999 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic (1:10)

Franklin Mint 1:10 1999 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic (1:10) diecast car

When Harley-Davidson dubbed their 1999 "ultimate" road cruiser the Road King, they weren't merely resorting to hyperbole. This baby is BIG and loaded with goodies galore. Powered by an 88 cubic inch (!) twin cam engine, isolated from the frame by elastomer mounts, features like an anti-dive fork and air-adjustable suspension provide incomparable riding smoothness and comfort.

With its usual attention to detail, FM has done the Road King up right. The hand levers, shift and brake pedals, rear passenger footrests and front and rear suspensions all move. Like its other images, the drive belt follows the rear wheel rotation. The white wall tires have authentic tread patterns and the spokes are photo-etched metal. The seat is done in soft, black plastic, as are the hard-shell saddlebags with lids that open and include leather straps. There's a windshield up front and all the mirrors, lights and 1:10 scale accessories you can lay your eyes on. The paint finish is done in glossy, two-tone Aztec Orange and Diamond Ice. FM even included a helmet for a 1:10 sized head. This image is as pleasing to the eye as the 1:1 bike. It's one of FM's finest images to date.

Harley understands the romance of being seated on a big, burley, touring bike, floating along a country road, like few other motorcycle manufacturers. The Road King is their way of expressing that romantic feeling. It's the perfect blend of tradition and technology. The issue price is $135. (11/26/2000)
