AutoArt 1:18 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Welcome Bryan Miranda to our featured writers team - he has a thing about all kinds of trucks and horsepower. Looks like this model has both.
Review by Bryan Miranda

Overview

First introduced in 2002, the Porsche Cayenne is currently in its second generation of production. After comparing photographs and specifications for the different model years, I believe AUTO Art chose the first generation model as their prototype to model the Cayenne. Wheel design, headlamp, and fog lamp styles, along with the 4.5-liter offering of the twin-turbo engine all point to first generation. The 4.5-liter twin-turbocharged engine produces 450 horsepower and 457 lb.-ft. of torque (vs. the second generation 4.8 liters and 500 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft of torque). This allows the nearly 5,200 pound SUV to catapult from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 165 mph (171 mph for 2008).

I couldn’t wait for this model to arrive. A Porsche, but not just any Porsche, the 4.5-liter V8 twin-turbocharged Cayenne is the epitome of a high-performance luxury SUV. Whew, now that was a mouthful. I can just imagine all 450 horses raring to go – especially the sound of the quad exhaust. I can see that this is no ordinary SUV! Road trip, drive to work, or late-night diaper run for the baby! I don’t think I could find enough excuses to drive this car. For those of us who don’t have $97,700 to plunk down for one, AUTO Art, well known for their equally high-quality releases, produced this impressive model for all to enjoy. This release is available in two colors: Gray Metallic with black interior and Black with tan interior.

The actual Cayenne Turbo has larger front disc brakes and calipers. AUTO Art has correctly modeled the different caliper sizes for this release-although the discs appear to be the same size. Keeping true to the prototype, AUTO Art gave this model great looking red brake calipers complete with “Porsche” lettering. The red calipers add a lot of sport to this SUV and stand out well on model colors.

The headlamps are also well done, without the anchoring center spot or side-connecting points seen on other manufacturer’s models. I’m not really sure how these things are staying on there, but they look great and very realistic. The model has brushed aluminum window trim covers with clear glass windows as opposed to the factory tinted windows, and they are in the rolled-up position, which is really nice when modeling these SUVs. The rear glass tailgate also has the integrated defroster and the sunroof is tinted. The interior is all molded plastic, made to resemble leather-seating surfaces yet are hard to the touch. The floor and rear compartment have soft carpet simulated surfaces while the dash incorporates a navigation system and Porsche emblem on the steering wheel. The seats don’t recline or adjust, and a lot of detail gets lost with the black interior, but it is well executed nonetheless. The black interior enhances the effect that the windows are tinted.

This Gray Metallic finish is applied flawlessly. I couldn’t find any nicks, scratches, over-spray or defects in the finish; not even the white dust I’ve found on the last couple of models I’ve received from them. It was well packaged in the usual AUTO Art foam packaging and box. A miniature brochure would have been a nice addition, but at nearly $140, I’m happy with the way things are without any additional cost.

This is a fine release from AUTO Art and would make a great addition to any Porsche collection, truck or contemporary model collector. This model is currently available at Legacy Motors in both colors. Pick up yours now before they’re gone!

AUTOart's Porsche Cayenne is in stock at Legacy Motors in both the Grey Metallic and Black versions.
