The 1954 General Motors Motorama showed off innovations in the GM pipline like the Chevy Nomad station wagon, Pontiac Bonneville gullwing 2 seater and the Cadillac La Espada. All were built on fiberglass bodies around Harley Earl ideas. In their midst was the stunning General Motors Firebird XP-21, looking every bit like a land rocket.
Harley Earl admitted the Firebird rocket-like body was inspired by the Douglas Skyray delta wing fighter jet. It doesn't take a genius to see the jet fighter: the "needle" nose, delta wings swept back over the rear of the body, a vertical tail fin and plastic bubble over the driver`s cockpit.
... powered by the distinctive wail of a jet turbine engine!
In stock at Legacy Motors is Spark's fabulous 1:43 rendition of the Firebird 1 XP-21. In 1:43, the thrill is concentrated, not scaled down.
If you want to place your bet on a 1:18 version, we have ordered Truescale Miniatures version of the Firebird XP-21, which can be reserved for delivery promised this year.
