We are pleased to accept Barry Lester, another pioneer, into our 1:43 Scale Hall of Fame. In the fifties, he started in England, having a number of model designs and magazine articles published. He went on to make models of cars for collectors and museums around the world.
Barry designed the Peter Atkinson Acorn models and early John Day models. These experiences led him to start up his own company, Auto Replicas in 1971 to produce white metal collectors’ car models. The first model was an ERA, followed by AC Cobras, Maserati’s, an Amilcar, and others. The business was expanded, with a name change to BKL Developments and produced patterns and/or castings for Bellini, Pirate, Lowland, J & M and others.
Barry moved the Business to France in 1993 and now, in retirement makes Bugatti & Citroën models for his own pleasure. Drawings and designs continue to be published and he exhibits regularly with his wife, Geneviève in Port Leucate in their own Exhibitions.
Our hobby might not be what it is today without the work initiated by Barry Lester. He is a very welcome addition to our 1:43 Scale hall of Fame.
