Our experiences with diecast collecting are very similar, John.
When it comes to collecting 1/24 diecast our experiences are very similar.
Fortunately with being a late starter too the main source of models is the secondary market- for me it's been eBay.
So unless a seller is knowingly trying to hide some problem with a model - I haven't experienced this yet - its possible to see what is being offered before a bid or purchase is made. I think that we are fortunate in that respect.
