In those early years when FM was relying on impulse buyers seeing the ads in the Sunday Parade section, so they marketed colorfully painted popular marques that would attract attention.
The 1938 Alvis certainly did not fit the bill. An obscure (at least to Americans) British 4 door drop top seemed a really unusual choice going against conventional marketing strategies. I bought it... because back then I was buying every release FM put out.
Many years later, I asked Raffi about that odd choice and he told me it was actually one of their biggest sellers. Go figure.
