Interesting question that got me thinking ..... There are MANY diecast that hundreds even thousands
Were produced yet there were few 1:1s. Take the FM 1940 Duesenberg Town Car. ONE was made in 1:1 and no other 1940 Duesenbergs were produced yet TFM Seems to have run off as many copies as they could sell! Another rare 1:1 is a 1936 Talbot Lago FOUR were made in 1936 and 2 for 1937. MC USA made probably 300-400 counting all three colors. CMC Released several versions of it in 1:18 and my guess is they must have made in the thousand plus range counting all colors. I think it about to supply and demand if only 1-2 or a dozen etc of a 1:1 were made only select few can own one. If it’s a striking design that appeals to the masses thousands of collectors might want a copy. That said it most likely is the reason DM made a model of a fairly low production number 1:1. It has just the right amount of everything to make us collectors want one! I wasn’t even big on woodies when I started collecting yet I now have about 7-10! They’re just so well done and look nice miniaturized IMO
