GMH - GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN is as its name suggests a wholly owned subsidiary of the
US auto maker. To Australians, Holden cars are garnered with so much local pride that, and especially in the earlier years of manufacture, up to around 1977 when GMH started to produce rebadged Opels from Germany with still some local features, they took on the mantel of a gift from god. Just kidding. But, they were a big deal automobile in the two Antipodean nations. Flash forward to 2019 and Holden sales have tanked following years of decline, and after the billions of local dollars was payed to GM as corporate subsidies by the Australian government, GMH no longer produces cars in Australia.
