I agree with you Tony. I could be wrong, but I think the reason is...
Rear skirts were NOT an integral part of the cars design, but rather add ins. That said they look like what they are “tacked on”. Much like the 57 Chevy, and other cars of that era. Take the 60s Thunderbirds and Cadillacs. Rear skirts were part of the design and are meant to be there. They disguised this on the 63 Sports Roadster but IMO It looks quirky without the skirts
