(PICS) '58 Chevy Pickup mild Custom.......project from 6 years ago
This project was relatively quick and simple and was mainly the result of wanting to use up some parts in my parts-bin. The original pickup box was suffering from some serious metal deterioration but the cab itself was OK.
I had set aside the grille and headlights, etc. for my ’58 Napco Suburban project (shown previously), and I had a Motormax pickup box left over from the upcoming use of its ’58 front clip on that Suburban, so here were a bunch of surplus parts just crying to be used on a custom project.
I used a Cadillac motor from a Revell parts pack, modified with the use of 3-2BBLs and filter, and did some subtle body modifications to the entire cab, including the removal of the molded on sun visor detail, and I added roll-n-pleat upholstery details to all the interior panels. I removed the cast on doglegs from the doors and made tighter swing hinges in stiff wire
The front height of the engine hood was cut down and a polished tube grill section was added to its front detail to continue the theme of the custom tube grille. A few louvres were added to the top of the hood, back near the windshield.
Lots of handmade custom visual detail was added to the pickup box including a fabricated polished brass fuel tank, and a hinged hard cover was also bent up from sheet aluminum.
Wheels are chrome reverse with craft store plated buttons used as hubcaps, and paint is custom mixed Pearle-bronze basecoat/clearcoat.
