What you looking for is found in craft stores....
It's a high tack compound that you can use to hold things in place. One term for it is museum wax.
I have a bunch of that stuff but it's no longer in its original packaging. I know the last batch I bought was under the "Elmer's" brand.
I wish I could remember the name, but every craft store carries it.
