Prior to this treaty the pope was not permitted to cross into Italy,
confining him to Vatican City. Now that a pope was allowed to travel, the world's car makers tripped over each other to produce a papal motorcar. This Fiat 525 was the first, but was soon supplanted with a closed car by Mercedes, a 460 Nurburg Pullman. It was reported that Pius XI enjoyed his new freedom and would yell to his driver, "Faster, faster!". That 460 didn't get a lot of miles and was used for the next 25 years
