I knew there would be someone who wouldn't get my point, maybe more, because we have only heard from a few collectors.
First, I didn't see the term "expert" used in my post, or any of the other posts following mine. No one professes to be, as you state emphatically, a so called expert. It's just a stated opinion, of which I am entitled to have. This forum, and John Kuvakas, can correct me , if I am wrong, is for discussion and opinion, of model car subject matter.
As far as 100% proof of authentic colors for any particular year, there certainly is proof, and plenty of it. There are a variety of paint chips from different paint manufacturers. There is a dealer album sent to each dealership, for sales personnel, with paint chips of colors being offered for that year. The 1961 mercury Comet sales brochure lists all of the colors and upholstery choices on the last page. What more do you need.
Lastly, you can buy whatever you like. This is a democracy last time I checked. There is no need for you to resent anyone from having an opinion, but I personally will insist on authenticity in a model. That is my opinion, and you have yours. The smart thing for a manufacturer, however, is to make the color that the 99,998 people will buy, and not the other way around.
