Found a bit more info via Facebook.
As follows:
Original colour for the Birkin Bentley was mid-blue chosen during the car's development as a hint to the many Bugattis Bentley cars were eating up like they were going out of fashion. The car was repainted red in 1932 and that is the colour mostly associated with this great beast to this day. It was green as a result of the rebuild with a 2 seater body when it was retired from racing in 1940, but from 1964, it was owned by Russ Turner who put the original body back on during a rebuild in the late 1960's and painted it red.
