I have some US catalogs that show those 85-cent prices.
In fact I was able to buy one for 75 cents once. By the time the American finmobiles arrived with windows, the price was up to a buck. My first Corgi, the Triumph Herald, had engine detail and suspension, and was $1.25. And from there greater detail, inflation, and so on led us to today.

But you can still get a Hotwheels car for a buck I think. Not bad compared to the 50-cent Matchboxes from over 50 years ago.
