Once more George you prove my point (thanks!) You hate the 1959 Cadillac but thousands.....
.ordered & purchased the car undoubtedly for the very reason you despise it. Those fins of course "are the car."

GM designed those fins specifically so that Cadillac owners would be noticed; GM's goal was to "out-fin" competitors. They succeeded.

Cadillac sales that year reinforced the fact that any car will get you where you want to go...but when you drive a Cadillac (with those OH SO TALL FINS) people will know you have arrived.

Growing up in the 80's was no deterrent for me, however, the 1959 Cadillac (CDV) was one of the first collector cars I purchased; I just had to have those fins. In fact, one of my first websites (albeit crude) still operates...featuring my 1959 Cadillac.

But again, to your point George....although you dislike the car, proud Cadillac owners did not B-E-C-A-U-S-E they knew everyone would see those fins, hence, they(as Cadillac owners) would stand out.

Why buy a Cadillac (or any luxury car) if you feel your NOT going to be noticed? On several levels (whether owners admit to it or not) they want to make a statement for all to see. George, you may not feel this way but countless others do. Naturally, there's no "wrong or right" answer here; it's simply human nature.

Do you think GM that year could've sold many Cadillacs WITHOUT those fins? Hardly!

I can assure you George, those Cadillac owners may have been "sorry souls" (as you put it) but boy, they sure were happy.
