If you follow international motor racing this was the big one that not
only caused Mercedes Benz to cease all racing activities but the co-driver waiting to drive and take over LeVeghe's car was an American, John Fitch, who never got to co-drive, but as maybe a reflex completely retired from racing there and came back to the USA. And later became a consultant for auto safety and pioneered many highway safety devices still in use today. And we've just recently lost Mr. Fitch. As some of you know.
