We canceled our land line eight years ago. It was no longer useful.
Kelly and I have agreed to put the phones away when we're eating together. We even work to put our phones down if the other begins talking. She's far more important than anything my phone can tell me.

Another thing I did with our congregation was to take a pledge to avoid using our phones for anything other than a hands-free call when driving. I did the funeral of a younger person who perished in an accident. He was the victim of another driver who flew through a light while texting. The loss was devastating. I'm thankful that most of the folks in our church took it all very seriously and hold each other accountable on a day to day basis. None of us wants to attend another funeral like that one.

Like anything else in life, we have some amazing technology available to us. Any of us can abuse it at any time and become addicted to it. It's not the technology that's the problem, it's our lack of self-discipline. This applies to technology, food, drink and...kittens!
