(pics) The Black Forest region of Germany during Christmas 2005.
I was there on business, but my company let me take my wife, put us up in the Bayerischerhof hotel on Lindau im Bodensee in one of the best suites overlooking the Swiss Alps across the Bodensee and gave us several extra days to do with as we pleased. Germany, especially the Swabian region on the border with Austria at Christmas is amazing. The Bayerischerhoff hotel is the singular best hotel I've ever stayed in (and I've stayed in the Omni Angel's Plaza in LA which is about as nice as a business trip gets in LA, anything more requires you to own the company sending you on the trip. :-) ). We went to the huge Kristkindlmarkt in Munchen/Munich. We headed across the border into Austria. And spent our final night in Zurich, Switzerland where we flew out in the morning. Great dinner but the air in Zurich is hard to breath and the hotel rooms are incredibly small. I'm so glad we weren't there for the entire trip.

Our waking view every morning.

A couple of the store front windows at Christmas time.
