You're all good with me, Joop mate. NZ was named after the Dutch province of the same name.
Bruce was a ubiquitous name in both Australia and New Zealand especially in the immediate post WW2 era. So naming a shark Bruce is not surprising.
Although there is certainly deep sporting rivalry between our two countries we mainly get along for the most part anyway.
Australia is our nearest neighbor - about a three and a half our flight away, otherwise we are surrounded by a massive moat that is the Pacific ocean, the Southern Ocean and the Tasman Sea.

Our soldier's have fought alongside each other in two world wars, Korea and to my everlasting shame, Vietnam. Both our countries ship off our soldiers in continuation of both AU & NZ support of US military objectives.

As a New Zealander and because our accents are, to foreign ears similar to each other, I am used to people asking which of the two Antipodean country's I hail from and I am proud to tell them where.
I often make the same mistake when I hear a North American accent and ask if that person is either Canadian or American.

It's all good we are all friends anyhow.
